Xerxis Hotel – Nea Roda – beautiful beach and authentic Greek hospitality

September 17, 2023

Xerxis Hotel is located right on the sandy beach in Nea Roda, along with a bar and restaurant that is part of the hotel. It offers self-catering accommodation with free Wi-Fi and views of the sea or a quiet street. The hotel beach is equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds, which hotel guests can enjoy without any obligations, and other guests with an ordered drink. There is a free parking space next to the hotel.

Xerxis Hotel has 9 studios with a terrace, 6 of which overlook the sea, and the other 3 overlook a quiet street, like most of the place. In offer is also a studio at the very top of the Xerxis Hotel, which, although a double room, occupies the largest area, due to the size of the terrace it has. The studio at the top of the Xerxis Hotel also has the most beautiful view of all the studios. The studios have a fully equipped kitchen, with all the necessary utensils for preparing meals, as well as a coffee machine. The studios are equipped with TV (satellite TV, as well as Serbian and Russian channels). Studios (about 30m²) with sea view include one double bed and one separate bed or three separate beds, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, kitchenette, TV, private balcony with sea view. Capacity – 3 adults. Studios (about 30m²) with street view include one double bed and one twin bed or three twin beds, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, kitchenette, TV and private balcony. Capacity – 3 adults. Equipment for children is available to guests (cot and cradle in the accommodation, high chairs for children in the bar restaurant or in the accommodation).

From the 2023 season, the accommodation offers a bed and breakfast service. The breakfast is very abundant, it is prepared individually and according to the wishes of the guest (the host’s recommendation is eggs, prepared in various ways), and from the freshest and most often homemade food, it can be salty or sweet, includes coffee as desired, juice, milk, yogurt… Half-board is also prepared individually, and the menu is agreed upon with the host during breakfast that day (we advise the day before, if it is a matter of preparing a meal that requires more time and organization, for the reason that every lunch is also prepared from fresh ingredients, which also implies precise orders of fresh meat) . The guest can also opt for a “more expensive” meal, such as fresh fish, with a minimal surcharge for that meal.

Nea Roda is a small town on the eastern side of the Athos peninsula. In ancient times this was the site of the Xerxes Canal used by the Persian navy during its war campaigns to bypass the often windy southern parts of Athos. Very soon after the Persian attacks on Greece, this canal was buried, but even today you can see the clear line of the canal itself. The beach is crowned with the Blue Flag, which is awarded at the level of the European Union. What to visit around Nea Roda: less than two kilometers from the center of Nea Roda there is a small but very beautiful beach – Voulitsa, while further down the road, five kilometers from this resort you can see one of the most famous beaches of the Athos peninsula – Koumitsa beach. In addition to being very spacious, tourists are also fascinated by the color of the sea, by which it is recognizable. On the other side, north of the town of Nea Roda, you can visit the town of Ierisos, which, apart from a beautiful beach, has a large selection of shops and the remains of the ancient city of Akhantos. In the extension of the road, just a few kilometers away, you can visit the Kakovo monastery. The Kakovo Monastery is one of the metohs of the Hilandar Monastery, which is located outside Mount Athos, so women can also visit it. Apart from a large number of Serbian tourists, it is also visited by Greeks and other Orthodox nations.

On the other side of the peninsula, just ten kilometers from Nea Roda and Xerxis Hotel, you can see the city of Ouranopolis, from where boats depart to Mount Athos. Apart from its cultural and historical importance, Mount Athos is the most important place for all Orthodox Christians, and if you choose Nea Roda as your starting point, it will certainly facilitate your tour and visit of the surrounding monasteries and destinations of the Athos peninsula.
