Unlike the turbulent ocean on the east side of Puerto Plata, the waters west of the city are much calmer, with beautiful coral islands and clear water. These places are visited by tourists who want to swim with stingrays and other exotic marine animals, dive, or sail on sailboats. One such place is Cayo Arena, or Paradise Beach, as tourists call it. Cayo Arena is located kilometers from the coast, and to reach this natural pool, you have to rent a boat from the nearby coastal town of Punta Rucia. After half an hour of sailing and enjoying the sights of the turbulent Atlantic, you will suddenly find yourself in shallow waters, surrounded by a coral reef and a small island in the middle of this natural phenomenon.

Sveta Gora je duhovna prestonica pravoslavnog hrišćanskog sveta. Reč je o verskoj zajednici sa 1000 godina starim manastirima, ćelijama u pećinama i kulama. Uvrštena je u UNESKO-ve spomenike svetske baštine. Prvi monasi stigli su na Svetu Goru tokom 5. veka nove ere, tražeći osamljeno mesto za molitvu i pronalaženje mira na zemlji. Za srpsku kulturu i pravoslavlje najbitnije mesto se nalazi upravo na Svetoj Gori. Grčki monah Georgije Hilandarios se smatra osnivačem Hilandara. 1198. Godine na temeljima ovog mesta manastir Hilandar su obnovili veliki župan Stefan Nemanja i njegov sin Rastko, to jest monasi Simeon i Sava. Te godine je vizantijski car Aleksije treći Anđeo Simeonu i Savi izdao zapečaćenu zlatnu bulu kojom se manastir Hilandar daruju kako bi mogli da primaju srpske monahe. 1199. godine u manastiru je preminuo monah Simeon, otac Svetog Save, a legenda kaže da je na mestu na kome je on sahranjen u nekadašnjoj crkvi Vavedenja Bogorodice, koju je kasnije kralj Milutin obnovio, nikla čudesna loza. Da biste došli na Svetu Goru, potrebno je da prethodno tražite i dobijete blagoslov za posetu i boravak u manastiru, a da zatim na sam dan dolaska preuzmete dozvolu za boravak na Svetoj Gori, takozvani Diamonitirion. Vizu ili dozvolu za ulazak na Svetu Goru možete preuzeti u pokloničkoj kancelariji koja se nalazi u Uranopolisu u neposrednoj blizini pristaništa sa koga brodovi do Svete Gore polaze svakog jutra. Tokom letnjih meseci, kada je i najveći broj posetilaca, bitno je rezervisati karte za brod na vreme, tako da je preporuka da čim dobijete blagoslov iz manastira da imaju mesta za vas i da možete doći određenog dana, istog dana i rezervišete karte.
