Surrounded by eighteen four-thousand-metre peaks, a unique mountain and glacier landscape full

Saas valley consist of 4 villages – Saas-Fee, Saas-Grund, Saas-Almagell and Saas-Balen. The car-free village of Saas-Fee (1800m above sea level) lies at the foot of the highest mountain in Switzerland, the Dom (4545m above sea level), which can be viewed in all its glory from the world’s highest revolving restaurant.
In the summer, visitors can enjoy a huge number of day trip destinations, along with 350km of hiking paths and themed trails. Of course, let’s not forget the cuddliest citizens of the village, Saas-Fee either: the famous tame marmots. During the winter, the outstanding snow conditions and well-kept slopes make Saas-Fee the ultimate haven for winter sports pros, as well as anyone who just wants to give it a go.
The sunny mountain Hannig (2,336 m a.s.l.) is a popular destination in summer as well as in winter. At the top of the mountain station you can marvel at the Saas mountain world on the terrace of the mountain restaurant Hannig. Children can let off steam in the playground next to the mountain goats. After soaking up the sun, there is plenty to experience on the mountain. Discover the sunny path to Saas-Fee, look over the shoulder of the alpine team making cheese at the Hannig alpine pasture, whizz down the mountain on the monster scooters or go on the enchanting fairytale trail at Mälchbodu. The large terrace invites you to soak up the sun thanks to the many hours of sunshine. Next to the restaurantis a playground for the little guests, who can linger in the play corner inside the restaurant in bad weather.
The Spielboden (2’488 m a.s.l.) is home to the popular marmots. Sighting and feeding the marmots is an animal experience for the whole family. Now you can learn a lot of exciting things about the cute mammals on the marmot trail. Families and culinary enthusiasts alike will get their money’s worth at the restaurant Spielboden. Marmots are probably the sweetest villagers in Saas-Fee. Explore the area of Spielboden or the Stafelwald and you will probably come across marmots. They like to be fed with peanuts and carrots all summer long. In winter the cute little fellows sleep peacefully in their caves. The hibernation lasts between 6 and 8 months. From mid-April the marmots are seen again and are looking forward to your visit!
Rarely are you as close to the glaciers as on Längfluh (2869 m a.s.l.). If you want to go one step further, it is best to join a mountain guide for a tour on the Fee glacier or visit the glacier lake. The starting point is the Längfluh mountain station. From there you can hike comfortably to the glacier lake in about a quarter of an hour. In a sunny location in the Längfluh glacier area lies the Steinhütte Längfluh. In addition to delicious food with a view of a breathtaking panorama.
“Can I touch the animals, too?”. This question sounds familiar to many parents. Children don’t just want to observe animals from a distance, they also want to be able to touch and stroke them. This possibility is offered by the petting zoo at the Kreuzboden mountain station above Saas-Grund. In Hohsiland there are also other attractions during your family trip. The children can let off steam. Be it on the suspension bridge, on the climbing walls or other equipment. On a hot summer day you can cool down in our water park. At the mountain lake you can enjoy the free view of the Mischabel chain and over Saas-Fee. The Hohsiland can be reached in a short time. The Kreuzboden above Saas-Grund is easily accessible by cable car. Near the Kreuzboden mountain station is the beautiful Kreuzbodensee. Get from one side to the other by raft and enjoy the constant view of the highest mountains in Switzerland! You will be offered a wonderful panorama.
Saas-Balen
Saas-Balen (1483m above sea level) lies at the northern border of the holiday region Saas-Fee/Saastal. The small mountain village, featuring the impressive Fellbach waterfall, entices visitors with scenic hiking paths up to spots such as the Weilern Matt and Heimischgartu. Cheese lovers shouldn’t miss out on a tasty trip up to Europe’s highest Alpine pastures on the Hoferalp, whereas art fanatics should swarm to Saas-Balen: its round church, built in 1812, is one-of-a-kind in Switzerland. What’s more, the church is located right by the starting point of a 26km-long cross country ski trail, which leads visitors through snow-covered larch forests.
